Description

Chinese Embroidery Workshop at the Chinese American Museum DC

Chinese embroidery has played a significant role in cultural history, hierarchy, and commerce throughout China. Embroidered garments were meticulously crafted for the emperor and his aristocracy, the level of elaborate detail displaying rank. Auspicious creatures and flowers woven into textile brought good luck and fortune to those who adorned them. With the invention of silk in China through the silkworm, the embroidery was elevated and spread to all corners of the world.
